#Hashtags Are the New Disposable Cameras

Remember back in the day when we had those disposable cameras at every table at wedding receptions and people went wild with them? Part of the fun was not knowing what pictures were taken and seeing them after they were developed! Let's be honest, most of them were no good, while some were hilarious, but very few were worth keeping. If they were keepers, it takes time to scan in each of them to a computer to share digitally. It also costs money and time to have them duplicated. Thank goodness for smart phones!

It seems like everything these days is being moved to technology, making everything much more simple! Those hashtags actually  have a great use for consolidating all of the beautiful photos your guests take at events! Hashtags are mainly used for Instagram and Twitter, although, Facebook tries to make this work, too! It is a perfect way to not only personalize your special event,  but it also helps to keep all of your pictures together. Anyone who has an Instagram, Twitter or Facebook account can find the event pictures with ease. Everyone who uploaded a picture and added the hashtag in the caption would have added their photo to the group for all to see!

A great example from a young couple who just got hitched had a hashtag that made everyone chuckle. Their last name is Merimann. So, they made their hashtag, "#LetsbeMerimann"...as in, let's be merry, mannnn. Another young couple I know have the same initials. Their hashtag was, "#JPpartyof2". How adorable is that?! There's also a million different ways to display your unique hashtag at your event for your guests to see! For some ideas check out the photos below!

Check out Knack's Pinterest for photo sources and links to find it all!

For your special event, consider creating a unique hashtag to make it easier for you and your guests to share and look through all of the lovely pictures that come out of it!

Welcome Mallorie!

Hi Knack followers! Thanks for stopping in!

Today is such an exciting day! I can finally let you all in on our big secret... Knack Events has an official Intern! We met Mallorie Owens this week after emailing a few times and we are certain that she will be a wonderful addition to Knack for the next few months! During Mallorie's time with Knack, we're excited to loop her in on all things planning and, not to mention, we're so grateful for the assistance she will bring to the team!

Now, a little bit about Mallorie!

Hi! My name is Mallorie Owens. I just recently graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Hospitality Management. I have always had a passion for event planning since I was in grade school. I do not think that people should have to throw their own parties! If the event is for you, you should be able to enjoy yourself with your guests. When I planned my best friends surprise parties I wanted them to enjoy every second of it and not worry about a thing. That is why proper planning, timing and details are so important. Most importantly you have to listen to your client to know how to personalize their special event.

In my spare time I enjoy playing with my dogs, hiking, yoga, volunteering at the Animal Shelter, being with my family, going to concerts and other events around Saint Louis. I would describe my characteristics/personality as: eccentric, responsible, kind-hearted, empathetic, punctual, excitable, honest, enthusiastic, positive, thoughtful and straightforward.

Check back soon for more from Mallorie!

Thanks again for following along! Have a great weekend, friends!

Charlotte's 1st Birthday Party - A Pink and Gold Affair

A 1st Birthday party may seem like a small fĂȘte to plan, but with a precious child like Charlotte Lee Dorton, a precious celebration is called for! This is an extra special event for Knack, as the Birthday Girl is my niece! My passion for planning, creating and DIYing doesn’t go unshared in my family, so there was no doubt in my mind that my sister Shannon had some big ideas for this party! Boy – or shall say Baby Girl Dorton – was I right!
Shannon and I met to discuss the details and her vision for Charlotte’s party, from the color scheme and the invitations, to exactly what she needed and expected from Knack! It wasn’t too long before I was diligently working to find the perfect venue for the party with some mid-January dates available! With the Dorton’s living in New Town, it seemed like a perfect fit to throw the party at the Town Hall. There’s seriously nothing better than a giant, empty room when you’re planning a party. That’s the type of venue that gets this girl going!

Vendors like Cose Dolci Bakery in Ferguson, MO made this event very special. Todd, Charlotte’s Dad and former Ferguson resident, is very passionate about supporting the small businesses in Ferguson and didn’t hesitate when he had the chance to grab some yummy desserts for Charlotte’s party! The pink and gold cake pops, cupcakes, cookies and the two cakes (one for Charlotte and one for Grandma! The two share a birthday – what fun!) were ridiculously pretty and delicious. Although, Charlotte isn’t a huge fan of sweets and didn’t make a dent in her cute, little smash cake! Wish I had that kind of willpower!

We all know that it can be tough to keep children busy for a couple of hours, but I think this party did the trick! With simple butcher paper taped to the concrete floor and a box of crayons, the kids in attendance really had their work cut out for them, not to mention the Play-Doh party favors and the balloons strewn across the room. Milk and cookies were aplenty when they were all colored out!

It was amazing to be a part of a day that’s so important to my sister, her husband and the rest of the Jackson & Dorton families! Shannon and Todd worked so hard to throw such a beautiful party for their little one! Charlotte doesn’t know how lucky she is just yet, but she’s going to discover this very soon – she’s growing so fast!
